Did you know that VR can help with Customized Employment?

Customized employment is when an employer and a potential employee design a job that meets the needs of both parties.  This can be an option for people that struggle to meet all of the important duties of most similar jobs, but can still make a big contribution.  Customized employment is a much more individualized way to find work and often takes more time and relationship building, but VR can support this path too.

Tyler is a VR client who has Cerebral Palsy (CP). His CP impacts his ability to do certain tasks. Tyler has a great relationship with his favorite bookstore and they recently told him about a job opening. Tyler does not think that he can meet some of the expectations, like unloading boxes of books and reaching high shelves, but believes there is a chance that he can negotiate a customized position because of his strong relationship with the business. VR can assist Tyler to explore the possibility of a successful match with this potential employer. Go to the Job Accommodation Network (or JAN) to learn more about customized employment.

If you have a dispute with VR about allowing an employment goal based on customized employment, you may call ACDL and do an intake.
